Staying Safe Online

E-Safety in School
At Loxwood, we recognise the integral role of the Internet in enhancing children’s learning experiences. Our pupils engage with digital resources regularly, and we are committed to ensuring they derive maximum benefit while fostering responsible online behaviour.

To safeguard our children, we employ a robust filtering system designed to block access to inappropriate websites during school hours. Furthermore, e-safety is a core component of our Computing curriculum; each year group participates in activities that underscore the importance of safe and sensible internet usage.

We actively promote e-safety awareness through initiatives such as 'Safer Internet Day' in February, during which all classes engage in educational activities designed to cultivate an understanding of online safety.

Recognising that children may have unsupervised access to the Internet at home, we encourage parents to remain vigilant, ensuring that their children navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.

Advice for Parents
WhatsApp announced an age limit of 16. Nearly all other Social Media services require users to be at least 13 years of age to access and use their services. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat and Tik Tok. YouTube requires account holders to be 18, but a 13-year-old can sign up with a parent's permission. The YouTube Terms of Service state that “the YouTube Website is not intended for children under 13”.

Therefore, none of the children at Loxwood Primary School should be using these forms of social media as a way of communicating with friends. If they follow these guidelines they will avoid other significant worries that can present themselves as a result of misuse of social media.
