Dear Families,
I am pleased to welcome you to the Oak Class page. My name is Mrs Donnelly, and I am the Oak Class teacher. We are fortunate to have Mrs Coupe working alongside us each day. This web page contains the current topic web, which outlines what your child will be learning about each half term. Additionally, it provides helpful information regarding Physical Education and your child’s woodland learning dates.
Tapestry, our online learning journal, is now up and running. This platform allows you to share any activities your child engages in at home that you would like us to know about. We will also capture special moments from time to time at school to share with you.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please feel free to approach me or Mrs Coupe at the door before or after school. Alternatively, you can send an email to messages@loxwoodschool.com or telephone the office and leave a message for me. I will respond as soon as I can.
I am looking forward to the summer term and all of the fantastic learning and activities we have planned for your children.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Donnelly

Amazon Wishlist
At Loxwood, we believe that every student deserves the best possible learning experience. Our teachers have curated Amazon Wish Lists filled with essential tools, supplies, and educational resources that will help enrich and enhance the learning opportunities in their classrooms. These items, from books to STEM kits and art materials, are selected to spark creativity, foster curiosity, and support students in reaching their full potential.
By contributing to our class Amazon Wish Lists, you’re directly impacting the classroom experience and ensuring that each child has access to the resources they need to succeed. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference, and we are incredibly grateful for your support in helping us create an inspiring and engaging learning environment. Thank you for being a part of our school community!
PE
We have a weekly PE lesson with Mr Green each Wednesday. Please make sure your child has a full, named PE kit in school for each Wednesday. We are working hard to change our clothes independently. Please encourage your child to change independently at home as well.
Woodlands learning
On their designated day, please ensure that your child arrives at school dressed in their Woodland Learning clothes—an old outfit that they are comfortable getting dirty. Please ensure that all items are clearly named. Additionally, it is very helpful to provide a separate plastic bag for any muddy clothes or boots that may require washing after our adventures.
While many of you are familiar with these clothing requirements, I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that suitable attire is essential for their participation in these enriching sessions. Items such as old trousers and long-sleeved tops are highly recommended to protect them during their outdoor adventures.
- Jacket/waterproof coat
- Fleece/sweatshirt*
- Waterproof trousers/trousers that can get muddy*
- Spare socks
- Wellies or boots (named and kept at school)
- Woolly hat/sunhat (weather dependent)
- Gloves (weather dependent)
- Spare plastic bag for muddy kit
*Shorts, short sleeved tops, crop tops and football kits are not suitable
Woodland Learning will happen in most weathers, other than high winds and thunderstorms therefore it means the children should be prepared to be outside in all weathers and dressed appropriately.

Topic webs
Below you will find the topic web for the first half of the Spring term, "Growing". The topic web gives you an overview of the topics the children might encounter, however, as EYFS is often child led, their own interests and ideas might take our learning off in a different direction to the direction we had planned to take!
Please check back here each week for a weekly newsletter to find out what we got up to in Oak class!
Phonics
Read, Write Inc (RWI) is the systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) scheme that we use at Loxwood school. Your child will begin by learning the set 1 sounds. Below are the set 1, 2 and 3 speed sounds in the RWI scheme.
Letter formation and handwriting practice.
New intake September 2026 information.
The "Starting Reception" team have created some great resources to help support you at home. Please do not use this as a tick sheet of what your child can do but as a guide of the kind of things that you can be working on at home and that we will then work on with you once your child has started school with us.
